Symptom Considerations
- Amount of blood lost is the main concern.
- If there is a lot of blood, your cat should be seen by your veterinarian as soon as possible.
- Some questions to prepare for:
- How long has it been bleeding?
- How much blood is there?
- Did you see the blood dripping or notice it on the floor?
- When was your cat’s last heat cycle?
- Your veterinarian may:
- Examine the vulva
- Run blood work to check red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets
- Make sure there are no foreign objects trapped in it
- Your cat may require:
- Sedation for the procedure
- Abdominal x-rays
- Oral medications you will administer at home (pain relievers, antibiotics)
