Priority: Monitor

Overview

  • Closely watch your cat for the next 5-7 days.
  • Make a veterinary appointment if symptoms continue.
  • If symptoms change, repeat and revise the Symptom Checker.

Symptom Considerations

  • Contact your veterinarian.
  • House soiling can mean there is a medical problem.
  • If your cat can’t urinate at all, it can be an emergency.
  • Some questions to prepare for:
    • When did you first notice your cat's trouble with urinating?
    • How would you describe the trouble (straining, unable to urinate, accidents, etc.)?
    • How much is your cat drinking?
    • Any change in color or smell of the urine?
  • Your cat may need diagnostic tests such as:
    • Urinalysis
    • Blood work
    • X-rays
    • Medications such as antibiotics or pain medications
    • A special diet
