Symptom Considerations

• Amount of blood lost is the main concern.
• If there is a lot of blood, your dog should be seen by your veterinarian as soon as possible.
• Some questions to prepare for:
  • How and when did the bleeding start?
  • Have you given your dog any medication or topical treatment?
• Your veterinarian may:
  • Examine all the nails and nail beds
  • Trim all the nails
• Your dog may require:
  • Sedation for the procedure
  • Wound cleaning and bandaging
  • Oral medications you will administer at home (pain relievers, antibiotics)
