Symptom Considerations
- Amount of blood lost is the main concern.
- If there is a lot of blood, your dog should be seen by your veterinarian as soon as possible.
- Some questions to prepare for:
- How long has your pet been bleeding?
- How much blood is there?
- Did you notice blood dripping, or find it on the floor?
- Your veterinarian may:
- Examine the penis and prepuce.
- Run blood work and urine sample to check red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets
- Run a urine culture to check for infection
- Make sure there are no foreign objects trapped in it
- Your dog may require:
- Sedation for the procedure
- Abdomen x-rays
- Oral medications you will administer at home (pain relievers, antibiotics)
