Priority: High

Overview

  • Needs a veterinary appointment within 12 hours.
  • If it is after hours, closely monitor your dog.
  • If your dog’s condition worsens, seek emergency care.
  • If symptoms change, repeat and revise the Symptom Checker.

Symptom Considerations

  • Lameness and limping can be caused by different things.
  • Some questions to prepare for:
    • How old is your dog?
    • Has this happened before?
    • Is your dog currently on any medications or supplements?
    • Does the lameness/limping improve after your dog starts moving?
    • Does your dog have difficulty rising after resting?
  • Your dog may need:
    • A musculoskeletal exam
    • Sedation for deep palpation to feel the joints
    • Diagnostic testing, such as x-rays
    • Blood testing for diseases such as Lyme disease
