Symptom Considerations
- Skin problems are most often caused by allergies and infections.
- Some questions to prepare for:
- Has this happened before?
- What dog food is your dog currently eating?
- Have you recently switched foods?
- If so, what did you used to feed your dog?
- Does your dog eat anything else, including treats and table scraps?
- Does this happen more at certain times of the year?
- Is your dog on any medications or supplements? What are they?
- Has your dog had any ear issues?
- Does your dog have gas or loose stool?
- Your dog may need:
- Diagnostic testing such as a microscope (cytology) exam
- Allergy testing
- Blood work
- Anti-inflammatories, antibiotics, antifungals, medicated shampoos
- An Elizabethan collar to prevent chewing/licking
